A Lesson On Listening

I was at work today in the middle of my 5 hour shift(grueling I know). I work at goodwill my job there. Is to gather all the priced stuff, and make sure it makes it to the store racks. At goodwill we have a lot of volunteers (people in the red vest).

The volunteers most of the time are fulfilling community service hours given to them in court. The volunteers are all there for different reasons. But, most time it's due to possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, or drinking while driving. But, today I met a volunteer who gave me a whole different outlook at life. You know how you run into people. Who are glad just to be alive. Well this volunteer was assigned to the floor which I'm in charge of. I introduced myself, told him what to do. Then we started talked talking I told my story, then he told me his.

This volunteer story was very humbling to me. He was doing hours for drinking while driving. But, when he was driving while drinking he crashed and flew out of his windshield. His girlfriend was in the car and only got minor injuries. In the crash this guy lost his ear, he lost some of his memory. He also had several charges against him. He told me in a very humorous and sincere way. That God allowed the lost of his ear, because of his stubbornness. He simply said that he refused to hear God. He then said jokingly that he now hears God all the time. His story hit me fast and hard. I went home sat all my "problems" down. It made me think am I listening to the voice of JESUS?. If so would I maintain it? Am I seeking it? It's very easy to block out the voice of God. It's easy to do our own thing. I sat on my bed indian style and yelled out in tears LORD I'M ALL EARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

predictions for the 2nd round - Finals

#1Boston(66-16) Boston(4-2)
#5Washington(43-39) Don't be fooled by the huge gap in wins. Washington has the firepower to keep up with Boston. In the regular season the Wizards won 3 out of 4 meetings. But, KG will not let the Wiz run wild with his MVP defense. Point guard play will be a huge factor too. But,KG has the last word.

#2Detroit(59-23) Detroit(4-2)
#3Orlando(52-30)Orlando has superman, but Detroit starting 5 have been through thick and thin. Detroit has a chip on their shoulder. This series will be a show and tell for what Orlando needs, in order to move to the next level.

#1Boston(66-16) Detroit(4-2)
#2Detroit(59-23)The match everyone saw coming in the east. Boston is making a historic run, while Detroit is doing what it does every year. Detroit has the quiet hunger this year.Boston is without a doubt on the a mission to the promise land. But will fall short due to the experience Detroit has as a unit, plus Detroit's bench is much deeper and younger.

#1Los Angeles(57-25) Los Angeles(4-2)
#4Utah(54-28)Utah is a sexy pick to upset the LA. But, the Lakers have the MVP of the league Kobe Bryant. I've never seen Kobe having this much fun playing ball. Kobe has a supporting cast. Utah is very talented, but Lakers have to much depth to handle.

#3 San Antonio(56-26) San Antonio(4-2)
#7Dallas(51-31)This could be a very easy series or hard one for the Spurs. It depends on their lackluster offense.Dallas has shown some signs of being dangerous. But, Dallas still seems out of sync since the Kidd trade. Spurs tempo and offense will determine this series. Dallas could be a sleeper.

#1Los Angeles(57-25) Los Angeles(4-3)
#3San Antonio(56-26)This series will go the distance. I'm favoring LA, because of home-court, Lamar Odom's play at the 3 and 4, and the fact Spurs must guard everyone. Which means Kobe can take over when needed. LA's trade for Gasol help them match better with the Spurs. Spurs have a chance but, I'm losing faith in their at times laid back approach. LA gets the kill.

#2 Detroit(59-23) Detroit(4-3)
#1Los Angeles(57-25) Rematch of 04 finals. Lakers are balanced and Detroit is business as usual. But, LA will be tired of playing the teams they played out west. While Detroit was only greatly challenged by Boston. Detriot matches well with this team, and will play the D necessary to win it all. LA will fall short in a exciting series. But, this won't be Kobe's last time in the finals. For LA to win Kobe must put up MJ like #'s which isn't hard to imagine. Kobe will be ready, will the rest of his team be ready? Because Detroit will be for sure.

1st Round Predictions

The 2008 NBA playoffs start on Saturday! Here's how I see the first round going down. I will put the rest of my predictions during the weekend. Enjoy!

Eastern Conference

1#Boston(66-16) Boston (4-0)
8#Atlanta(37-45)The only series that will be a sweep. Atlanta is just glad to make the playoffs. Boston is on a mission. While Atlanta is suiting up to be schooled. At least Atlanta can build on this for the future.

2#Detroit(59-23) Detroit (4-2)
7#Philadelphia(40-42) Philly is a young and scrappy team, who can give Detroit a legit series.
All Detroit needs to do is stay with the game plan. If so, Philly's inexperience will start to show. However, if Detroit starts to cruise Philly could throw the KO. It should be interesting

3#Orlando(52-30) Orlando (4-2)
6#Toronto(41-41) Toronto is a team who loves to run as does Orlando. This should be a high scoring series. Where little defense will be played, in the end Hedo Turkoglu's play will determine this series.

4#Cleveland(45-37) Washington(4-2)
5#Washington(43-39) Is Lebron overrated? Cleveland is not playing the stingy defense. That got them to the finals last year. Washington is playing their best ball on both ends. Which doesn't hold well for Lebron and Co. Lebron isn't overrated, but the rest of his team is.

Western Conference

1#Los Angeles(57-25) Los Angeles(4-1)
8#Denver(50-32) The Lakers are the most balanced team in the wild west. Melo and AI will be able to score enough to get one game. But, Denver's stubbornness not to play defense (except Camby, Najera, and Carter). Will give them a first round exit once again.

#2New Orleans(56-26) Dallas(4-2)
#7Dallas(51-31)New Orleans season is a feel good story. While Dallas has and had doubters. The Mavs are starting to play good ball. This series is about experience, and Dallas trumps New Orleans in that department. This series will be a good growing pain for the Hornets.

#3San Antonio(56-26) San Antonio(4-3)
#6Phoenix(55-27)This will be a dogfight for sure. This is a series about answering questions. Is the Spurs age catching up to them? Was the Shaq trade worth it? It should be a dozy, if Ginobili can have his way then Spurs will eliminate the Suns. Amare will be a factor too.

#4Utah(54-28) Utah(4-2)
#5Houston(55-27)Utah has the firepower, while Houston has the swagger. However, Houston is missing a 7"5 320 pound All- Star. Yao's injury decided this series along time ago. Houston has the tenacity to stay in the series. But, T-Mac can only do so much with role players. Utah presents to many problems for the Rockets.

My fellow deviants

We all want to change something in our lives. We all want to reach the top of the mountain. But, we all want to do it fast and on our own terms. We want to find a detour to our success of changing. Changing takes time and persistence. Change takes audacity to go beyond the norm and into the deviant. Change brings pain, crying, losing a friend. Whatever it brings it can only make you stronger if you let it. Change requires that we step out of our comfort zone. To push when we don't feel like it. To not quit when we want to.To relinquish our bad habits. Change can be accomplished and has been accomplished. However, you got have the desire to do it. This earth is not our home. It's up in heaven with king of deviants................. Jesus. For Jesus knows the power of change and what it can do. So sit back and, prepare yourselves to change. God is always, and never changes. For he is perfect, and we are not so change is imperative. When Jesus walked on this earth he knew that his children. Would have to go through change in order to be with him in heaven. For me personality that's my motivation to change. Sure, to better myself, but ultimately to know that I'm following the right direction to the golden gates.

I pray that everyone includes God in their change. For he has no need to change. Let him be the standard to which we all look up to.

Becoming Patiently Dependent

The past couple of months I've been trying to improve in the patience department. I have never been a patient person (especially with my family). Not only have I lacked patience with my family. But with everything else finishing school, finding a swell girl, and feeling accomplished to name a few. I've read a plethora of poems, quotes, and stories of how patience is worth it in the end. As Christians we are no longer on our own time, but God's. If we are on our own time we seem to eventually fall apart. As christian it's no longer about us it's about God. (Galatians 5:24-26) As for patience it builds, perseverance and, prosperity. But, most importantly you learn that God's timing is best. I know God knows the desires of my heart. He will provide for me like he always has. (Jeremiah 29:11) But, what I've started to realize is that. Patience test your obedience to wait on God's perfect watch. Every stroke has a purpose and every wake up call has a message. Patience also test your faith in God. Imagine Joseph and how long it took to get all that he got Egypt(Gensis 41:1-43 alot of patience!) I guess what I'm trying to say is that our patience will be tested by God. The reason being it makes us realize that our own watches are broken and that they will always mislead us. But, ultimaltely we learn to be totally dependent on God.
