One Year Ago

One year ago, I was encouraged by some friends. To start a blog. So I did and I had my first post on March 31, 2008. Since then I have accumulated 480 views, posted 94 blogs, and received 26 comments.

Looking back, I have learned a lot about myself through this blog. Like, the fact that I suck at writing, or my lack of vocabulary. My personal dictionary isn't very big, yet. I'm working on it.
I've learned that its not about the grammar. But about the message. I've learned that I like to blog. To be honest the first couple of months. I was very discouraged in regards to my blog. The reason being I had no comments. But I realize just, because I didn't receive comments didn't mean I had no one reading.

Then in the month of February. I had a severe case of writer's block. I wanted to put out new ideas, something that pops off the screen. I felt like I was being to redundant in my blogs. I've tried my best and still brainstorming.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who reads my blog. It may not be very profound, but hey, I try really hard. I want to thank my 8 followers, or actually 7 followers. I don't count as a follower. I want to thank those who have commented. I also want to thank the people, places, and ideas that have given me inspiration to blog.

Again, thanks, to those handful of individuals who check Metaphorically Wrong. No worries, Metaphorically Wrong is still going strong!

Bare Witness

There's this guy who I see almost everyday. There's nothing out of the ordinary about him. Well, until you see his feet. No, his feet aren't abnormal and no he doesn't have an extra foot. However, the guy doesn't wear shoes to school. He is always walking around bare- footed.

Every time I saw him I wondered, why? So I thought next time I saw him. I would ask, why? So I did and his response was awesome. To be completely honest it was unexpected too. He basically told me that. He doesn't wear shoes, because he doesn't want to get caught up in the vanity of the world. He named other reasons. But the last reason was the best.

He simply said "Its for Christ, so I can be a witness to others." I've observed this guy and he truly lives it out. The way he lives his life would be sufficient. That others might see Christ in him. But he goes the extra mile. He does something that's considered "out there' so others may know Christ.

So it got me thinking. Do we try to avoid going the extra mile? The extra mile doesn't require you to walk bare- footed. It may require you to befriend a lonely person, or moving to a different country. The point being as Christians shouldn't we be striving? To share God's glory?

I know at times I try to avoid those conversations, or helping people I don't know too well. Why do we at times, avoid being a witness to others? We try to find excuses. But they will never justify. What we, know we should do.

Being a witness for Christ isn't suppose to be easy. I falter all the time. But being a witness means getting our of your comfort zone and not drowning in your own comfort.

Take that leap!

Quotes

I have about 5 quotes on my wall. The quotes are used for inspiration, for reminders, or simply to encourage someone else. But what is it about quotes? Why are we so magnetized by quotes? Quotes seem to have this power. That can push someone to be better. Or bring tears of frustration down their face. Quotes have this amazing draw.

Quotes stand the test of time. Quotes are simply there to be read and felt. So why do we use quotes? Are quotes, words complied together. To form some kind of message, wisdom, or truth. I know, personally, I love to grab a quote book and read away. Overall, quotes do have a great impact. Quotes take on so many emotions. The words seem to resonate.

Here are some of my favorite quotes.

"Everything that matters in our intellectual and moral life begins with an individual confronting his own mind and conscience in a room by himself. - Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.

“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”- Jacob Riis

"When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity." - Albert Einstein

"People seldom do what they believe in. They do what is convenient, then repent." - Bob Dylan

"To love is to be vulnerable." - C.S. Lewis

"To be a christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." - C.S. Lewis

"A man may lose the good thing of this life against his will; if he loses the eternal blessings, he does so with his own consent."- St. Augustine

"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."- Mark Twain

Children Out Of Wedlock

Ran into this video, in a very unlikely place, espn.com. The clip is from a show on espn, Outside the Lines (OTL). The 11-minute clip is about athletes who have children out of wedlock. Some notable athletes who have had children out of wedlock include: Tom Brady, Dwight Howard, and Oscar De La Hoya. The video will mention athletes who have had more than one child out of wedlock. The numbers of children reach double- digits, it's interesting to say the least.

But the reason I post this clip. Is to the bring the subject up. Why the rise of births out of wedlock?

Have any thoughts or insight?

Spring Cleaning

There's this term that is thrown around every year around this time. You got it, "spring cleaning." Where we attempt to clean out our closest, cars, and for certain individuals, houses. We tend to find things, we don't use anymore, or forgot we had.

So as the spring cleaning bash begins. I would challenge and encourage you. To a) Clean what you need to clean b) Gather all the things you don't use, or don't need (be honest!) c) Once you've gather all that stuff. Find someone, somewhere, where you know your donations, gifts, will be utilized.

It's amazing the amount of stuff we can find. That can be used by someone else. Who needs it, far more that we do. So let the spring cleaning begin. Have fun!

Let your old, rarely used stuff. Be treasure for someone else.

MVP Race

This year's NBA MVP race has been very intriguing. LeBron James is a triple-threat every night. While leading his team to the best record in the east, and perhaps the league. Kobe Bryant is Kobe Bryant, on a mission to the Finals, and is the reigning MVP. The underdog happens to be the smallest player of the bunch. Dwayne Wade has lead a team full, of average to below average players to the playoffs. Not to mention the ungodly amount of points he is putting up a game.(29.7ppg)

With that all being said, I believe LeBron will hoist the trophy. The Cavs are only one game behind(51-13) the leagues best Lakers(52-13). The thing is LeBron has less talent to work with. Kobe has a fellow all- star in Pau Gasol, upcoming center Andrew Bynum, and a bench full of the likes of Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza, and Jordan Farmar.

LeBron has Mo Williams, who is an all -star. Delonte West is an undersized 2 guard who over achieves. Zydrunas Ilgauskas is getting old, Ben Wallace is old, and so is Joe Smith. LeBron has to do a lot for the team to be competitive.

If LeBron got hurt the Cavs would be a lottery team. If the Lakers lost Kobe to injury. The Lakers still have enough fire power to get into the playoffs.

Which to me makes LeBron the MVP. Wade's argument for MVP is compelling. But LeBron has been doing it, all season long.

Who do you thing should be MVP?

I Am Not An Island

Does it count, if its man made?

Back to the point......

Are you being a island this week?

If so, how did you get there?

Now how are you, trying to fix it?

Are you swimming yet?

Proverbial Slap

Don't you love it, when you get a slap in the face? By the word of God! When you cross that story, or verse that you needed to hear, or read. Well I've been slapped many times by the Bible. This verse gave me a real good slap. Well I should say, proverbial slap. Since the encounter, the verse has been stuck in my head.

Proverbs12:1

"Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid".
